Jesus Died for You and Rose Again

Jesus Died for You and Rose Again

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received,

how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures. And that he was buried,

and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

Many people wonder which is more important, the death of Jesus on the cross or His resurrection. Actually, they are equally important. On the cross, Jesus accomplished for us something that we could never do ourselves, He provided forgiveness of our sins. When He hung upon the cross Jesus took our sins upon Himself and our Heavenly Father poured out His wrath that was due us. That’s right, Jesus was punished for the sins that we did and do. It was necessary for Jesus to shed His blood as the perfect sacrifice as this is what God demanded. Without the shedding of Jesus’ blood, we have no way for our sins to be forgiven. But the story of Jesus did not end on the cross. Many churches display crosses where Jesus is dead still hanging on the cross. This not so in our church as we display an empty cross because He is not dead, but is risen just as He said.

So why is the resurrection important? Paul makes it clear in 1 Corinthians 15:17 “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is in vain; ye are yet in your sins.” Our salvation stands or falls on the bodily resurrection of Jesus. If Jesus did not bodily rise from the grave then He was not who He claimed to be, the Son of God, and we are still in our sins having no hope. But He did! Because of Jesus’ resurrection the promise that He made in John 14:19 holds true, “…because I live, ye shall live also.”

This Easter season we pray that you understand the works that Jesus did for you. He provided salvation, without Him we have no hope in this life or the life yet to come. We are all sinners, the Law given to Moses proves this. We need a Savior and His name is Jesus. Our prayer for you is that you cry out to Jesus today and ask Him to be your Savior.
